SAD DEMISE

   

Arun Wamanrao Pradhan (1940-2016) Arun Pradhan passed away peacefully on July 30th , 2016, at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. He is survived by his wife Veena (nee Gupte), daughters Monika (m. Sushil) and Soniya (m. Chanderkant), grandchildren Nikhil, Armaan, Aaryan, and Neil Born in Nagpur, India on January 18th , 1940, he studied Architecture in Mumbai then immigrated to Toronto with his wife, Veena more than fifty years ago. He was a long time member of Toronto’s Marathi Bhashik Mandal. In Toronto, he worked as an architect before moving to the Middle East for several years.  There, he worked with Bell Canada and helped establish their telecommunications infrastructure.  Upon retuning to Toronto he began a private practice with his partner, which he continued to run until his illness. His firm has had many successful projects including his most significant achievement - the Swami Narayan Mandir. During his life some of his favorite passions included travelling with his wife, learning new languages, taking music lessons, and playing golf.  Arun will be remembered as an extremely jovial person who welcomed everyone into his home and made a lasting impression on everyone he met. A celebration of his life will take place at the Elgin Mills Visitation Centre and Crematorium. MBM toronto 2016 Annual Picnic

Have a blast!

We have reserved Area 1 for the picnic. There is ample parking and the park is also easily accessible by public transit!

Venue: G. Ross Lord Park, 4801 Dufferin St, North York, ON M3H 5T3 – (off Dufferin between Steeles and Finch)
Date: Sunday August 21, 2016
Time: 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Admission:FREE for members
$5.00 for non-members – will be collected on the day of
Children under age 5 are FREE

As always, the picnic is a great way to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances and make new ones, on a nice summer’s day! We are planning lots of fun activities for all age groups and will provide specific details as they get finalized, in subsequent e-patras so stay tuned! Of course, we will have the classic things like bhel, kalingad, bingo, fun races, and cricket!

'SADHANA', An Artist Developement Performance Opportunity

Presented by Pratibha Arts in association with Harbourfront Centre

Pratibha Arts, in association with Harbourfront Centre’s NextSteps Dance Series, is hosting a unique artist development performance series entitled ‘Sadhana' on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Studio Theatre, Harbourfront Centre, Toronto.

Emerging artists between the ages of 18-30 are invited to submit performance samples for consideration to perform in the arts of Bharatha Natyam dance, Kathak dance, Mridangam (South Indian drums) and Tabla (North Indian drums) at Harbourfront Centre, one of Canada’s leading artistic institutions.

Curated by Pratibha Arts and Harbourfront Centre, the event will feature a first round presentation in front of a panel of esteemed judges, including world-renowned percussion master Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. Trichy Sankaran, and classical dance exponent and Guru Bharatha Kalashreshta Sudha Chandra Sekhar. The judges will offer feedback on performance craft, repertoire, and career development, and will select finalists to perform in a final round open to the public on the same day at 6:00 p.m.

Successful applicants will be notified by Sept. 1, 2016, and all selected will receive an artistic fee for their performances. This series is generously supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
